Curt's Message: Questions for CG and Devotionals

The Pastors' Blog

Dear friends,

What a blessing it was to have Curt Allen preach to us last Sunday on Matthew 14:22-36 and the story of Jesus walking on the water.

If you were not able to hear it or would like to listen again, the audio for the sermon can be found here.

In the meantime, here are some questions from Curt's message that will hopefully bless your reflection in CG or devotionals.

1.  Read carefully through Matt 14:22:36

2. The Intentionality of the Wind

Curt reflected on the idea that Peter's fear of the wind (even upon reaching Jesus) revealed Peter's poor faith: Peter's hope was not really in Jesus, but in the circumstances he wanted.  He feared the wind so much and desired it's removal so much that Jesus' presence in the rough weather was not enough for him.

This was God's design to reveal Peter's true hope and faith.

How can you relate to Peter? What circumstantial desires are you tempted to see as more important than Jesus' presence?

Spend some time confessing to Jesus where His presence has not been "enough" for you in your heart's response.

3.  The Intentionality of Jesus

How did Jesus respond when Peter called out to him when Peter was sinking?  What makes it difficult for you to cry out to God when you're sinking?

Consider Jesus response to Peter's poor faith and desperate plea.  Do you believe that this is God's heart for you as well?

What might it look like for you to grow in crying out to Jesus in the troubles of your life?

4.  Worship is the Answer

When the disciples reached the boat they "worshipped" Jesus.  This is the goal of our lives in every circumstance: To be able to acknowledge Jesus for Who He is as God Almighty and Lord and Savior and Sovereign over every aspect of our existence.

Spend some time worshipping Jesus as King over all the "winds" in your life:

- Consider naming each "wind" and confessing His Lordship and Sovereign Love for you over each one.

- Thank and praise Him that He will be faithful to you in the wind of every trouble, even when like Peter we are sinking.

Ok folks, that's all for this week.
Until next time,
Albert
