Church polity and how it actually functions has a crucial impact on every church's life together. Among many things, it has a significant impact on the trust between pastors and members, on the integrity and accountability of leaders, on the contribution of members to major decisions and the future direction of the church, on opportunities for ministry available to all, and on how pastors and members are treated when questions of serious sin arise. Many churches suffer because polity isn't defined clearly or functioning with integrity. And so we always want to be ready to seek God's Word and wisdom on this issue so that our polity is as healthy in its design and function as possible.
